Gabe is “home” and healing… Holiness and Healing from Wilmore and Cincinnati! [david]

Weigh in on the new poll!      —————————————————————->

Gabe is “home” in Wilmore. The surgery performed on Friday went very well. He had the t-tube removed and his airway looks very good. He has a very small trach tube in and is breathing mostly around it through his mouth and nose. This is really everything we have prayed for at this point. God is good! We ask your prayers for Gabe. We are asking God to keep his airway looking healthy this week… to prevent any scar tissue from growing and any swelling from occuring before his “look-see” procedure in Cinci on Friday.

Who would have ever thought in their wildest dreams that Cincinnati would be the site of Gabe’s healing? After living in Boston and Philadelphia with their long history as founding cities and places of learning and advanced medicine… and now living in the Research Triangle of North Carolina… But, Cincinnati is where God has called us.

Like Naaman when he was instructed to bathe in the Jordan, I often think… “Arent’ there cleaner rivers in my home country?” (2 Kings 5ff) And his is a very strange story of healing. An Israelite slave girl brings God’s word to Naaman. He searches out the prophet of God, but isn’t even granted a meeting. He tries to make a huge material “thanksgiving” offering but is refused. The vehicle of his healing is a swim in a muddy river. He meets with corruption in the house of God along the way… But, in the end, Naaman realizes that healing from God comes on God’s terms and in the context of a broken world… Naaman is not forgotten, nor has God ceased to work for the salvation of all the earth…

We know that Jesus came to seek and save the lost. We know that involved and still involves healing today. I believe that God has allowed me to be present and witness three instantaneous and miraculous healings with my own eyes. And yet, I have witnessed death and pain and disease. One of my neighbors is slowly dying in a very painful way… She is 30 something with a young son my boys’ age. Why doesn’t God heal? Why is it such a slow, costly, uncertain process for Gabe?

So… what gives? What is God up to? You can find tons of theories out there. Even in Wilmore at Asbury, there is confusion and uncertainty over the theology of healing. I can find plenty of people to disagree with here on the whole subject.

Maybe I’ll give you a bit more of my perspective and understanding in a future post. Suffice it to say that Naaman’s story has it all. God is in control. God the Holy Spirit has invaded our broken existence. The healing of the universe is underway and WILL find completion in Jesus very soon.

So… in the meantime… weigh in and let us know why you think God doesn’t always heal the way we’d like! There’s a new survey at the right.

    Hey there!
Glad to hear that Gabe is doing well so far. We will certainly be praying that everything still looks great on Friday.
As for healing in our world today - I believe it happens but obviously not all the time or in the ways we expect. Sitting here I am reminded of Job. He did not understand nor do we understand God’s ways. We can only trust Him to do what is ultimately best for us even if it does not seem like the best thing to us. Some how what Gabe is going through is going to serve an ultimate purpose far greater than we can imagine at this time.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers!
    Love,
    Emily

I rejoice with you at the good news! I will continue in prayer for Gabe’s recovery. I certainly don’t have the answers when it comes to the “whys” about prayers being answered. I do know, that the one for whom prayers are said, is not the only person who receives God’s intervention. The one saying the prayers and those surrounding the loved one are often witnesses and receivers of God’s power and love in ways we don’t often anticipate.
